Da Vinci’s notebook is considered funny because his thoughts and views were not  accepted in reality and is dismissed as “funny”. 

Why does Shaw call himself ‘an educated man’?

Shaw calls himself an educated man because he has earned his living by hard work  and that is the only thing that a highly educated man could do.

The governess did not teach Shaw the table of logarithms and the binomial theorem  because she did not know them herself. 

Why does the author say that the hardest part of schooling is the early part? 

The author says that the hardest part of schooling is the early part because at the early  stage of schooling, a child is taught how to read, write and calculate which becomes  hard for them. The most remarkable part of that is that one never remembers being  taught these things.  

How can a crammer find out what questions are going to be asked? 

A crammer can find out what questions are going to be asked by studying the old  examination papers until he knows all the questions that the examiners have to keep  asking over and over again. 

Why does Shaw say that once the students are safely through their examinations,  they will discover their education to be defective? 

The students after passing out their examinations safely they will find that they have not  been taught the important and basic activities of life such as eating, drinking, breathing  and sleeping. That is why Shaw says that once the students are safely pass their  examinations, they will discover their education to be defective.

According to Shaw, he, himself was a savage and an ignoramus because he claims he  knew nothing of the great musicians and painters as they were not taught to him in  School.

Shaw thinks that he has not fully grown up yet because according to him he is still  learning new things and his education is not over yet. His education is still going on and  he is learning thing from “life” which continues to be bigger school with fresh challenges.

Shaw says that to do well in an examination, one must go to a crammer because it is  true that a crammer cannot see the questions beforehand, but he can find out what  questions are going to be asked with the study of old examinations papers till he  knows all the importantquestions that the examiners have to keep asking over and  over again.

In this essay Shaw says that school was a sentence of penal servitude to him  because he was a person who born with artistic nature and could read the  masterpieces of literature, poetry, histories but he was unable to read textbooks as  they were written by ordinary people who did not know how to write. 

How does Shaw argue that a routine, supposed to suit everybody, suits  nobody? 

Shaw argues that a routine, which is supposed to suit everybody, actually suits  nobody because every person is an individual who requires individual attention but  that is not possible in the case of school and other routines. To explain his view, he  gives the example of the German boots and how they were not divided into lefts and  rights. Likewise we all require individual attention and how routines tend to be  uniform for everyone. 

Explain why it is dangerous to give up-to-date answers in the examinations. 

Shaw says that it is dangerous to give up-to-date answers in examinations because  people who set question in examinations are old people with old knowledge and  concepts which they think are universally right. They think that what they know is  actually right, they do not research on recent developments.
